Each family has simple rules or values.Even at individual level people have simple rules of conduct or principles.
There is a way of doing things depending on whether it is at individual,family, institutional or country level.
At individual level for example there are rules of hygiene which if not followed,one could catch illnesses and die.
If you avoid washing hands after the toilet, you could get cholera and die.That is one of the rules of hygiene.
Similarly God also set laws in the universe which if not obeyed the law breaker risks dire individual consequences.
The laws are the ten biblical commandments of Exodus Chapter 8.
Take the commandment which discourages people from having other gods for example,if you break it ,you risk losing out on heavenly wisdom.Remember according to Proverbs,the fear of the Lord is the beggining of wisdom.Which means if you worship God,you become wise.Of course if you do otherwise,you forfeit heavenly wisedom.
Take the commandment which which forbids to use the name of the Lord in vain.If you use the name of the Lord in vain you are not being respectful to God.If you have no regard for God who created you,how low are you going to regard a fellow human being?Of course a person will be worthless to you.
Similarly,the other commndment says,"Do not committ adultery." You know quite alright that adultery leads to dying of HIV/AIDS and contracting variuos sexually transmitted diseases.Adultery also leads to murder. If a man is found pants down by the woman's husband,any of the men could be murdered.
So many consequences dog the murderer.He could face life imprisonment in some countries or be excuted in others.Meantime the children of the dead man become pitious orphans, all resulting from breaking the law of God by committing adultery.
If you break the fourth commandment also which says,"Keep the Sabbath day holy," you plunge into spritual darkness.This is because the sabbath day was set aside by God himself as a rememberance of how he created the universe in six days.
The immediate consequence is that you do not rest with God so you lose out!Some have become stressed and depressed because of lack of rest.It is very important to have some day of rest and replenish after a long week of toiling for money.God himself saw the necessity.
If you take the the commandment which asks children to respect their parents,you will see that it is directly beneficial to mankind. If you do not respect your parents and elderly people,you teach your own children to disrespect you and other adults.You know how sad it is to be respected,let alone by your own child!
Even the law against coveting is for the benefit of people themselves.Would you enjoy having your own property coveted by your relatives?God forbid!They will kill you and share your property if you live in a country without good estate management laws.
So you have seen that it does not make sense for some people to preach that God's law,the ten commandments, was abolished by Christ who clearly upholds the law in Mathew Chapter 5 by clarifying that he came to fulfill the very law.
People will break God's law at their own peril.Certainly immediate consequences will face them.As for God's law,it stands for ever.
